Healthy Finances Week – 15-22 July

A Message from Lambeth Council’s Advice Team

Healthy Finances Week

We know times are tough and many of our residents are struggling to keep their finances in order and are often resorting to drastic measures to stay afloat.

That’s why we’re holding our first ever Healthy Finances Week between 15 and 22 July.

The dedicated week of action will:

  • raise awareness of the pitfalls of using payday loan shops
  • offer advice to help residents avoid or deal with loan sharks
  • promote effective money management
  • offer advice about managing debt

There will also be plenty of opportunities to get advice about the on-going benefit cuts and how they are affecting you.

Activities throughout the week will include:

Friday 19 July
Healthy Finance Fair, Lambeth Town Hall
11am to 3pm

Need help with budgeting? Want to open a bank account but don’t know where to start? Come along to our event where you will be able to find out about how to open a bank account, save on your energy bills, and get advice how to look after your budget and get out of debt. You can also try our payday loans game, tickle your taste buds in out ‘supermarket v name brand’ flavour test and much more.

Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July
Lambeth Country Show

Come along to the Lambeth Council campaigns tent at the borough’s biggest outdoor event. We will have information about looking after your money, benefit changes and payday loans. Sid the Shark will also be at the park warning people about the perils of borrowing from loan sharks.

Plus:

  • Benefit cut advice sessions at our customer centres in Brixton and Streatham
  • Illegal money lending training for staff, volunteers and community representatives
  • RBS MoneySense debt and finance workshops for parents in children’s centres and schools
  • Borough-wide tour by Sid the Shark and the Illegal Money Lending Team educating people about the dangers of using loan sharks to borrow money
