Visitors’ Parking Permits – Piloting a New Scheme

The Tenants Association has successfully negotiated a pilot scheme to test a new system of issuing visitors’ parking permits in the Alverstone/Lockwood/Blades courtyard. You will be able to buy up to five weeks’ worth of tickets (ie. 10) which you can use on any one day up until the end of 2016. This means you can have one handy for those unannounced visits by relatives or maintenance engineers, particularly at weekends. The pilot will run from 15 February to 15 April. Let us know if you think it’s working or if you want to suggest changes. Here is Hyde’s letter about it:   To All Residents Alverstone House, Blades House, Lockwood House Dear residents, Re:  Visitor Parking Permit Pilot for Alverstone, Blades and Lockwood House.  We are writing to inform you that we are working with the Kennington Park Estate Tenants and Residents Association to pilot a new scheme for visitor’s parking permits for Alverstone,…

Housing & Planning Bill – demonstrate on 5 January

The Housing & Planning Bill gets its third reading at the beginning of January.   A protest lobby and meeting in Parliament on Tuesday 5 January is being organised by the ‘Kill the Housing Bill – Secure Homes for All’ campaign and will mark the next stage of the fight against the Housing Bill. Come to rally outside Parliament at Old Palace Yard SW1A 0AA from 2pm, joined by MPs and other speakers against the Government’s latest onslaught on truly affordable and secure homes. A protest meeting inside Parliament 5-7pm (allow 30 minutes to get in due to security checks) will hear tenants, trade unions, councillors and MPs explain the case against the Housing Bill and for investment in council housing and other secure and really-affordable homes. Last week, ministers managed to sneak in last minute amendments to the Bill to remove secure lifetime council tenancies. Invite and Lobby your Councillors…

Save Oval by Create Streets

I had the opportunity to see a presentation by Create Streets for an alternative masterplan to the OAKDA gas holder site.  Create Streets are counteracting Berkeley’s proposals with their own design, which they have called Save Oval.  This is exciting – the Save Oval scheme seems to raise a lot of points that I myself have queried. You can find more information on the Save Oval masterplan here: http://www.saveoval.com/ And you can take part in the Save Oval consultation by clicking on the link on the above page.

KOV Forum Meeting 2nd December 2015

It was great to participate in a very lively Kennington, Oval & Vauxhall Forum meeting on Wednesday night.  The hall was absolutely packed! We were joined by our MP Kate Hoey, to discuss the proposed consultation for redevelopment of Vauxhall Cross, with a presentation by Transport for London. The second half of the meeting saw a presentation by Berkeley Homes for the OAKDA gas holder site.  This was followed by a presentation of an alternative masterplan scheme by Create Streets.  More on this to follow on the blog…

Berkeley Homes Consultation for the OAKDA Site

We would like everyone to come to the Community Centre on the 5th December 2015. Berkeley Homes are holding a consultation session for residents, regarding the redevelopment of the Tesco and Gas Holder site. It’s really important that we join together to tell Berkeley Homes what we want from their proposed masterplan, and ensure that the estate has a voice about the development. I received a leaflet through my door about this, and took a picture and attached to this post so that everyone can see! See you there!

Noise from roadworks week commencing 23.11.15

You may be one of the residents disturbed by late night roadworks that ran on into the early hours of the morning earlier this week. Myself and other residents on the estate complained to Lambeth Environmental Services and Highways Department: noise@lambeth.gov.uk I don’t believe that residents were consulted or informed of these works in the correct manner, and will continue to pursue this with Lambeth Council and Transport for London. If you wish to make a complaint, please see a generic version of a letter below, for you to copy, edit and use as you wish, and send to the above address.       Dear Sir/Madam, I am a resident of the Kennington Park Estate. Roadworks began adjacent to my property on Sunday evening (22/11/15), and continued throughout the week. Lambeth Council has issued a Section 61 Notice under the Control of Pollution Act 1974 in respect of these works.  The…
