Parking on Kennington Park Estate

Hyde Housing has changed the way UKCPM manage parking on our Estate. These are the key points of the new SIPPI system which came into effect on 1 April 2025. 1.  Permit Prices Lower emission vehicles: ie. those that are ULEZ compliant, will be charged at £90 per year for the first car. Hyde social rent tenants: social rent tenants will receive a 20% discount. This means that for social residents with a ULEZ complaint car the cost of an annual permit is reduced to £72 per year for the first car. Additional vehicles and cars that are not ULEZ exempt: the permits for second cars and non-ULEZ complaint cars will increase to £200 per year (regardless of tenancy type). Hyde do not normally issue more than two permits per home, but in instances where an exception is made, additional vehicles will be charged at the commercial parking rate, which…

Plans for the future of Kennington Park Community Centre

Hyde Housing circulated a letter to all residents at the end of July saying that they are planning to redevelop the Community Centre and Oval Arts Depot site. The letter said that they plan to demolish and then rebuild the Centre and Depot buildings, and to build new flats on the site. This letter can be seen below.   Many residents will remember that Hyde made similar proposals nearly a decade ago. When those plans fell through, Hyde handed management of the Centre over to volunteers from the Tenants’ & Residents’ Association and supported us in forming a charitable Community Benefit Society to run it democratically. Despite having to close during Covid-19 lockdowns, the Community Centre has flourished. It is financially viable, and provides space for many groups, including a drama school and historical fencers, faith groups, a youth club, several after-school clubs, Zumba exercise for older people, and a…

News from the Hyde Foundation

A new youth outreach project is starting on Kennington Park Estate in June, supported by The Hyde Foundation.   Three experienced outreach workers, Julian, Martine and Junior, will be on the Estate three times a week in the evenings for the next 6 months. The project aims to engage young people who are out on the Estate, and support them to access local provision and other positive opportunities. If residents want to meet outreach workers or arrange for them to work with particular young people living on the estate contact martine@utcs.org.uk. Youth workers will all have ID badges when working on the estate.

Service charges from 1 April 2017 – important update

As a direct result of the Tenants Association’s complaints, Hyde is sending out revised rent and service charge bills to residents of Kennington Park Estate.   Not only did Hyde include charges for a non-existent service (CCTV monitoring – see item below) but, for the second year running, they failed to include any charges for caretaking. We had to point this out to them. We don’t know what effect these two very large mistakes will have on our individual bills but we are sure we are not alone in wanting to have something approaching accuracy in what we have to pay for the coming year. We have pressed Hyde to ensure all consequential changes to Direct Debits and Housing Benefit are properly and quickly processed. We still have many questions about the actual and estimated service charges and Hyde acknowledges that there is much still to be resolved. Residents will…
