Healthy Finances Week – 15-22 July

A Message from Lambeth Council’s Advice Team Healthy Finances Week   We know times are tough and many of our residents are struggling to keep their finances in order and are often resorting to drastic measures to stay afloat. That’s why we’re holding our first ever Healthy Finances Week between 15 and 22 July. The dedicated week of action will: raise awareness of the pitfalls of using payday loan shops offer advice to help residents avoid or deal with loan sharks promote effective money management offer advice about managing debt There will also be plenty of opportunities to get advice about the on-going benefit cuts and how they are affecting you. Doing up the Neighbourhood

A message from Lambeth Council about the Oval Neighbourhood Enhancement Programme Dear resident, This is an opportunity to design your neighbourhood with friends, neighbours and Lambeth staff. In the spring we sent you postcard style questionnaires asking you what you liked and disliked about your streets. General issues raised from the Oval area were: Street greening Cycle parking Secure cycle storage Effective speed reducing measures Traffic Calming Bins There will be a consultation in the early autumn, where all residents in the area will be given an opportunity to say which of the proposed improvements they prefer. There will be a statutory consultation and decision making process towards the end of the year. How can you get involved? Two local residents associations, TARA (Tradescant Road area) and IMPACT (Claylands Green area) have held events where residents showed their own photos of what they like and what they dislike in our…

Planting the Flower Garden

The second consultation about the Kennington Park Flower Garden will be in the evening of Friday 21 June from 6.30-8.00 in the marquee behind the Park Café. If you have ideas about what to plant in the restored garden, the Project organisers would love to hear them. And you’ll be able to view designs for new gates to the Green Link. Light refreshments will be served!

Spring Cleaning!

Now the sun’s out, it’s time to brighten up the ‘Hood! Lambeth Council wants to know how we would like to improve our neighbourhood! They’ve contacted the TA about two schemes: The Neighbourhood Enhancement Programme (NEP) and Community Freshview. The NEP has funding from TFL to pay for improving local streets, doing things like repairing pavements, traffic slowing measures, cycling improvements, planting trees and flowers. The Community Freshview project involves local residents getting together to brighten up the place, install planters, paint scruffy patches and give the area a bit of a facelift. Lambeth provides the material – we provide the workers! The recent resurfacing of Magee Street was done as part of these schemes. Let us have your ideas of what you would like to see done around the Estate via the Contact Us box on the right and we will pass them on to the Council.

Save Clapham Fire Station

SAVE CLAPHAM FIRE STATION – THURSDAY 16TH MAY @ 6:30PM – ASSEMBLE & MARCH FROM BRIXTON FIRE STATION TO THE CONSULTATION MEETING AT LAMBETH TOWN HALL Boris Johnson plans to close 12 London Fire Stations across London and Clapham is one of them. There will also be a cut of 18 fire engines and hundreds of fire fighters’ jobs. This is what Lambeth Council thinks of the proposals: According to the London Fire Brigade, the Mayor’s proposals will actually mean the average time it takes the first fire engine to reach an emergency will rise by 34 seconds. Closing Clapham fire station threatens to increase concerns about safety and could undermine the preventative work that fire fighters have done in the local community over many years. Northern Line Extension Consultation

Transport for London is now consulting on the Extension of the Northern Line from Kennington to Nine Elms and Battersea.   Representations and comments, either for or against the NLE, can be made in writing to the Secretary of State for Transport until Tuesday 18 June 2013. c/o Transport and Works Act Orders Unit General Counsel’s Office Department for Transport Zone 1/18 Great Minster House 33 Horseferry Road London SW1P 4DR Email: transportandworksact@dft.gsi.gov.uk Drop in events are being organised so that we can speak to TFL and view the application. Positive Action Community Group

      This year a new community group has been launched on the Estate, the Positive Action Community Group.   They are meeting on Tuesday 7 May at 6.30 in the Community Centre so that people can share ideas on how to improve the environment and community involvement on the Estate.
