Oval tube station The ticket office will close for ever on 20 April and TFL will be carrying out works in the ticket hall for a month. The station will remain open and we’ll be able to buy tickets from the machines. Northern Line Extension BT Openreach will be carrying out investigation works on their cable network in the area of Kennington Green for two weeks starting on 20 April. The work will be at night from 19:00 to 07:00. BT Openreach has advised that this work will be carried out by four workmen pulling cables from chamber to chamber. They will be using battery powered lighting and there will be no requirement to excavate or hand dig and no generators will be used. Free Computer Sessions at the Community Centre
**STOP PRESS** The Digital Inclusion programme will close at the beginning of April 2016 as funding is no longer available. Every Monday morning – 10 am to noon – you can come and use the computers in the Community Centre for free. Help will be at hand if you need it. Whether you need access to job search, to claim benefits, to email your friends and relatives, to do some online shopping, or just to learn how to get started on the internet – this could be just what you’ve been looking for! And it’s free!

Roadworks, roadworks – all around us! And then they’re going to tunnel underneath …..
Kennington Park Estate is currently an island of tranquillity surrounded by traffic chaos and lots of traffic cones, heavy machinery and people in hard hats and hi-vis jackets. Whether that tranquillity will last when tunnelling for the Northern Line Extension starts, or if Hyde’s redevelopment of the Community Centre site goes ahead, remains to be seen. The Northern Line Extension A shaft and head house are being constructed at Kennington Green. The work here has just started and it is anticipated that it will be a worksite for at least three years. Oval Triangle Transport for London is making a lot of changes to the roads, junctions, traffic lights, crossings and cycle superhighways all round the Oval Triangle, Harleyford Street, Kennington Park Road and Kennington Road. Election Hustings! 18 April! 11am! St Mark’s Churchyard! Election Hustings!
A General Election hustings for the Vauxhall constituency has been called by Steve Coulson, the Vicar of St. Mark’s Kennington, and Chair of the Friends of St. Mark’s Churchyard. The outdoor event will take place at St Mark’s on 18 April as part of the popular Oval Farmer’s Market. The Vicar observes: “You will know the extraordinary historic link that Kennington Park has with open air democracy, and the Friends sought to maintain that tradition by hosting open air hustings for last year’s Council elections. There were a good number of the public attending the Saturday morning market who appreciated that opportunity to meet candidates.” The site is of great historical interest. St Mark’s stands on the site of 16th Century gallows. Hopefully the hustings on 18 April should be slightly kinder on any candidate who might be slightly economical with the truth. Easter Hats and Parade – 9 and 10 April
KPE’s Positive Action Community Group organised Family Events in the Community Centre over the Easter holidays. Thursday 9 April was Easter Hat Making Day and Friday 10 April was the Easter Parade. And this was the result!
Revised proposals for redevelopment on the Estate
The Hyde Group has put forward revised plans for their proposed redevelopment of the Harleyford Street and Community Centre site on the Estate. Their plans are now for a smaller building than before, nine flats for sale, a replacement community centre with outdoor space and either offices or a small retail space on the ground floor facing the main road.
